Flyaway Hair was formed in the Fall of 1998 when guitarist Andy Sturtevant, formerly of the Moon Dog Biscuits, and bassist Dick Hamill, formerly of Stonegate, began writing new material at Prime Rehearsal Studios in Portland. While rehearsing there, they met drummer Chris Corbin, and the three hit it off immediately. Three days after their first jam, they entered Cavern Recording in Waterville, Maine, and recorded a 4-song demo, which can be heard below.
The band also chose their name that day in Waterville, after Chris had to run out to CVS to pick up a few items for his girlfriend. One of the items was a can of Scotchguard, which advertised itself to “Prevent Flyaway Hair.”
